5 Simple Ways to Jump-Start the Perfect Routine (Even if You’re Type-B!)

Loving our Kids· Time Management 101

8 May

If you struggle to get yourself or your kids into a good routine, then you’re in the right place because I have some very simple and doable tips for you!

Even if your schedule varies from day-to-day, having basic morning and bedtime routines in place will help you tremendously. With a basic routine, you’ll be able to have a cleaner house, calmer mornings, and more leisure time in your week because you won’t be rushing around putting out clutter fires all the time!

(And maybe you really want a good routine, but getting your kids to put their dirty clothes in the hamper or help load the dishwasher is a constant battle. If so, then you’re definitely going to want to sign up for the FREE training I’m offering on Tuesday, May 15th about how to win The Chore War with your kids. Go here to sign up!)

5 Simple Ways to Jump-Start a Great Routine

1) Set yourselves up for success.

If the bedrooms are a mess and the laundry is behind, it’s going to be really hard to develop a simple routine, so you’ll want to make sure those things are caught up as much as possible. Spend a day or two catching up a bit before you start implementing your new routine.

2) Consider your family’s natural rhythm.

If you try to completely revamp everything, you’re setting yourself up for frustration. So think about what you normally do at certain times each day (eat, sleep, etc.), and tweak your schedule from there.

3) Give your family grace.

It’s going to take time to get into the habit of a routine, so don’t make excuses or give up, but do give yourselves grace!

4) Keep things simple.

If you want to succeed at a routine, then it has to be simple, otherwise people won’t follow through. Keep in mind that it’s better to only have a few things on your morning (or evening, or whenever else) schedule and the items actually get completed, than it is to have a giant plan that doesn’t even get started because everyone is overwhelmed.

5) Have a list.

Having a list will help you not have to repeat yourself or spend brain power remembering what to do next – everyone can just check the list to see what needs done!

Don’t forget that if you’d love to have a great routine, but getting your kids on board with chores is ridiculously difficult, then make sure to sign up for the completely FREE Live Training all about how to win The Chore War with your kids on Tuesday, May 15th. Go here to read the details!

I’d love to hear: What tip do you have for getting into – and staying in – a routine?
